"Ultimately, there could be no difference..."

Hi !

I'm reading Ellen MacArthur's autobiography at the moment. She is just about to take part in her first single-handed sailing race and writes:

"More unsettling, though, was being continually asked about what it felt like to be the only girl and the youngest competitor in the race... I had never considered it."

This really struck a chord with me. Part of the ethos Intrepid Magazine promotes is to focus on the adventure or sport, rather than the fact that the participant is female.

It's about adventurous people who just happen to all be women.

"I don't know how it feels to be a guy or 10 years older... I had my own strengths and weaknesses, but so did every other skipper.

Ultimately, there could be no difference. We'd be on the same boats, in the same race, in the same seas."
